Yesterday, I send my mom a link to something I thought about applying for and asked for some advice and she left me on read.
Today, I texted her that the stores in my city are open for shopping again and she texts back immediately to ask when she can come visit me to go shopping.

It's really crazy to realize that, in a way covid is the best thing that ever happened to me. To be clear, the pain and death caused by the pandemic is in no way worth the small gains it circumstantially brought me but that's why it's weird to think about.
I don't know when or if I ever would have recognized the parental and spiritual abuse I was dealing with, if the pandemic didn't make it more apparent and me less busy. I might not have been able to do my internship that led to my job offer because of the distance and my then lack of a license. I wouldn't have the funds I need to move out unless my internship was virtual and interest was paused on federal student debt. I might have been too scared to leave those I knew in the cult, but because of lack of in person events I was able to mostly distance myself.
Even now it can suck ass. I'm stuck with these abusers nearly 24/7 and can't see anyone who actually cares for me. I'm terrified about getting Covid and increasingly disgusted by the lack of government response. So knowing how all this awful stuff has helped me, and also other people in groups like this brings me a small comfort. It will never be a fair trade but it's something positive.

If Bats would be made extinct then the tasty fruits wouldn't be able to satisfy the human desire. Bats feed on the insects in the flowers as well as on the nectar and flower parts, such as calabash, sausage tree, areca palm, kapok tree, banana. How is it like being a mother?
Pandemi membuat banyak perubahan bagi banyak orang, termasuk aku. Keadaan rumah, orang sekitar, bahkan suasana hatipun dengan mudahnya berubah. Lagi-lagi pandemi. Yasudahlah emang bisa apa?
Pagi itu tidak seperti biasanya harus bangun lebih pagi. Aku yang punya kebiasaan tidur setelah subuh parah banget gaboleh ya gais dihadapkan pada situasi yang mengharuskan kebiasaan itu gabisa dilakukan lagi. Susah pake banget. Menggerutu, cemberut, nguap2. Kondisi pandemi ini menyebabkan umi pada akhirnya memutuskan buat gabalikin bibi kerumah untuk ngerjain pekerjaan rumah. Alhasil beginilah. Anak perempuan pertamanya menjadi andalan.
Maghrib kala itu kami dikumpulkan bersama oleh umi. Gabiasanya. Disitu umi cerita tentang keputusannya buat ga balikin bibi kerumah dan pembagian tugas anak-anaknya dirumah. Ditutup dengan “Teteh ikhlas ya?”
Pekerjaan yang pada awalnya terkesan sederhana ternyata tidak sesederhana itu, apalagi pada awalnya dengan aku yang tidak terbiasa. Apa bisa? Waktu berlalu tak terasa, terlewati beberapa bulan. Kebiasaan melakukan pekerjaan rumah sudah menjadi rutinitas ternyata. Tak disangka. Membagi waktu dan membuat timeline harian ternyata juga sudah menjadi kebiasaan. Tak disangka. Lelah bercampur makan hati diawal ternyata membuahkan rasa haru dan bangga. “Alhamdulillah kamu bisa!” Yang awalnya hanya mengandalkan telor ceplok atau mie kuah sekarang bisa masuk sayur dan lauk pauk. Tidak mewah tapi cukuplah membuat hati bahagia dengan “Wih sekarang masakan teteh enak ya!”
Tak sampai disitu, ternyata cobaan lain juga bermunculan. Selain pekerjaan rumah, urusan adik-adiknya pun menjadi tanggung jawab, bantuin belajar dan bangunin sekolah. Lagi-lagi tidak semudah itu ya. Suasana hati yang kala itu tidak bisa berdamai dengan ketidakidealan kondisi membuatnya marah. Marah sejadi-jadinya.
“Teteh kalau kesel gausah bantuin umi gapapa, umi masih bisa ko” tertampar sekali dengan ucapan umi pagi itu. Aku yang baru beberapa bulan dengan rutinitas baru ini bisa-bisanya mengeluh, bisa-bisanya marah. Rasa bersalah memenuhi hati karena sadar tidak selayaknya menyalahkan keadaan. Diri ini sudah lagi bukan anak kecil. Ayo sadarlah.
Rasa bersalah itupun akhirnya mendorongku untuk meminta maaf pada umi. Menangisi keadaan diri yang masih belum bisa menyikapi situasi dengan sebaik-baiknya. Meluapkan semua masalah rumah termasuk adik-adik yang sungguh tidak mudah. Umi dengan kekuatan seorang ibu dengan bijaknya menjawab keluhanku. “Banyak banget PR umi, Teh. Nanti teteh sebelum nikah, banyakin ilmu dulu ya”
Ternyata latihan jadi ibu aja gamudah, apalagi menjadi the real ibu? Bukannya menakuti. Hanya menjadikan bentuk renungan untuk lebih memaknai proses pernikahan serta tanggung jawab yang akan diemban jadi... bisa mempersiapkannya dengan matang dan pada akhirnya bisa menjalankan tugas dengan sebaik-baiknya
