KH OC week 2024 - Day 6: Journal Appearance.
I would like to write a little about Hajime's design and why it is exactly the way you see it now.
The hairstyle has been there since the first design (I wrote about it), the reason why it is so: Hajime is directly connected to Vanitas, and Vanitas is a part of Ventus. However, the back of Hajime's head is shaved (the exact reason is still unknown in the plot, perhaps it was done by Even, perhaps it is his personal manifestation). Outside of the plot, I did this so that Hajime would have more of his own personality in his look despite how he is related to certain canon characters.
Directly about the face: Hajime has quite thick eyebrows and eyelashes, this is his own manifestation. The Hajime's gaze is heavy, the corners of his eyes are lowered. The eye color is jade, which has been with him since his very first design and is in fact the opposite color of the eyes of the Unversed. It is also noticeable from the look that Hajime has a darkened area from the eyebrows to the eyes: this is also natural for him. What was received later: dark bags under the eyes.
+ Hajime has an interesting feature: when he cries, his tears are partially colored black. This pigment is secreted by his body. This is also reminded by the darkened tips of his fingers and toes.
The Hajime's skin color is noticeably dark, which was inspired by Master Xehanort. This can be explained by the fact that Vanitas is connected to darkness.
When I drew his outfit I relied on the designs of the Unversed from Birth by Sleep. I took a little from each Unversed and came to the version that you can see now. (+ I think I'll use the last one for his appearance in KH III).
I really wanted to convey the feature of the Flood: pointed limbs, so Hajime has such pointed shoes and silver claws on his gloves. (+ I really love Aqua's shoes). The color of the outfit is inspired by the same Unversed.

Hey there , love your work, the romance scenes in your work are so pure and go straight into the heart. I was wondering how Ilzurus looks in her Dragon form ? Also what is the nicest way to let Thea/Theo down to pursue other ROs. ?...(T is a lovely chracter)
Thank you, you're a sweetheart!
Okay, so I'll give this under the cut, so the ones that don't want to get spoiled about this can scroll over.
Ilzrus is around 65 feet tall in their dragon form. They are slender and agile even in their dragon form and they rely on speed in battle. Their scales are slivery-white, but the iridescent glow (that's evident in their human form underneath their skin) is accentuated in their dragon form. Their horns and spade are a slightly darker shade than the scales and their eyes are sepent like and golden. They don't breathe fire, but they can use magic.
The best way to remain just best friends with T is to choose "We're just friends and they know that, why would they ask me this?", during the dinner in chapter two. If you do that, the route you'll go on is that of bff but nothing more.
Appearance: Long, light brown hair falls down in waves over her shoulder. Her ears are pierced with the jewels of her homeland, and her tongue has a piercing for which she received when she took the throne. She has a small bird wrapped in chains tattoo on her upper left arm. Her eyes are a greenish hue, reminding everyone of who she really is. Scars line her face, a reminder of what used to be.
About: No one knows The Queen’s actual name, always having been referred to as The Queen for as long as she’s had the throne. She is the youngest out of four children: two brothers and one sister. Having taken up the throne when she was sixteen years old due to her family dying of unknown causes, she’s been ruler for fifteen years. Known to be a strict ruler, never giving the same warning more than once.
The Queen has raised the MC ever since they came into her care when they were only six years old. Always being by their side as they grow up, she feels possessive over them, which to the public eye could be seen as protective.
She has also seen the close friendship form between Ranvir and MC, seeing how they spend every moment they get free with one another. Though, when the MC starts to spend more time with him than her, she chases Ranvir off. Hoping the MC would come crawling back to her and forget about him.
“We’re family, MC. Family stays together no matter what.” -The Queen
Under the cut is a portrait of her without the scars!

hey what kind of clothes does the queen wear? for research purposes...
Uh-huh... "research purpose". I'm watching you, Salty. 😑
Under the cut!
She mostly wears something that's like this! Though it's more violet in color than black.
It mixes with this:
And this is what she wears to parties:
Thank you!!
Elia
???? Female/Male, ?? - A ghost wondering the halls of Ehrenreich - or at least that's what they tell you. No one else can seem to see them, and with a sheet thrown over their heads it's convincing. Whether they're on your side or against you it's impossible to tell - they know you aren't who you say you are, and tells you they're the same. Mischievous and mysterious, Elia's motivations are a mystery, their reason for being at Ehrenreich even more so.
Also PS: I have decided to give the masses what they want. The Revenant will be an RO, but not in this book. Book Two is when the revenant will be available to woo. Thank you for your time and patience.
Can you describe the ros physical descriptions? Also with the difference they had if you choose another gender (example : f!yeriel has shoulder length hair while m!yeriel has short hair) cause me being bi and doesn’t have any preference for personality/romance route, choose which ro to romanced by their looks.
I feel like i ask a lot from this, anyways.... hows the demo? :)
Hi anon! It's a-okay to ask, really, butttttt-- Well, in all honesty, I never really thought of differentiating their looks much, especially with how the story is in it's early stages.
But with this ask, I can actually clear up how the ROs would pretty much look
Alistair has naturally tan skin (a rich brownish orange tone), deep brown eyes and black undercut hair that he usually keeps in a messy combed back style, there is a natural red tuff of hair on the left side of his face, just above his eyebrow that falls over his features. He's the tallest among his siblings, standing at 5'10 and has a body similar to a swimmer's body.
Emrys has a deeper skin tone than his siblings, a tawny/taupe tone, bright blue eyes and deep black hair that he keeps long, reaching just above his butt. The shortest out of his siblings at around 5'7 and since he focused on studies more than training (though he does still get some), he's a bit on the leaner side
P has the fairest skin tone among their siblings, like a fair beige, bright eyes (yellow with hints of orange) and tousled orange hair. Second tallest at 5'8 (regardless of gender). Petra(f) and Phyllo(nb) have their hair reaching a bit under their chin while Paschal's is much shorter. They all have average body types but lean towards being a little more toned because of their constant travels and training(the ones that they don't skip).
Yeriel's skin tone is pretty similar to Alistair's just a little cooler. They have green eyes and brown hair. Yeriel(F) has her hair much longer than her male counterpart, reaching past her shoulders while M!Yeriel just has it to his shoulders; they both tie it back with a green ribbon. Because of their position as part of the army, they have pretty distinct builds, both of them are pretty muscled and tall (5'11).
Seiraya has a warm beige skin tone, vibrant lavender eyes and long bluish grey hair that they keep tied up and away but have enough to frame their face. They both have pretty much the same features and stand at 5'8; they have lean bodies with a bit of chub around their thighs, upper arms and thighs since they don't actually get around doing just as much physical work as the others (plus rich people food is amazing).
Hi! Author! Can blob ask what kind of uniform the student in the Graves of heirs world wear?it is more of a Victorian style clothes?do they have pretty ornament on them?and do they have different uniform with each student?
-blob-
Hey, Blob!
So, there are two uniforms in TGOH, but the first one doesn't last very long.
Also, this got kind of long so under the cut!
The big difference between the uniforms between the students is boys wear shorts and the girls wear skirts.
The first one is the uniform of Niko Lades and if you don't mind I'm just going to copy and paste the description from the game:
It's a simple uniform, pale whites and greys to match the clothes of the sisters. The only flash of colour I can see is a ribbon with a purple broach on it. The grey shorts/skirt has straps that criss-cross over the back, matched by simple grey tights and a loose button up shirt with worn cuffs.
The shoes worn with this outfit are black dress shoes.
The second uniform is the one worn in Ehrenreich. There's a small description of it in the prologue (being worn by Carmine. Also same shoes):
She wears a school uniform with golden tassels on the shoulders of a black military jacket and a purple dress shirt underneath. Overall she looks like she just rolled out of bed - ripped tights, wrinkled clothes, and more locks of blonde hair out of place than in.
I realize this description is kind of sparse so I tried my hand at An Art™ (I'm sorry it's so bad lmao - is it obvious I have shaky hands?) I did this really quick so I couldn't do the details on the jacket so I just grabbed some reference images. They also wear a leather clasp neck piece underneath their clothes - basically a collar but it extends down over entire neck.
I hope this helped! Thank you so much for the ask!
WTF WHY DIDN'T I COME ACROSS THIS UNTIL NOW?? Sounds delicious 😤👌❤️

[ Fernweh Saga is a character driven, romance focused interactive fiction with slow-build horror elements that unravel as you move deeper into the plot.]
~Some homecomings feel more like rude awakenings, but this one will become a waking nightmare…~
You return to the small town of Fernweh after the death of your grandfather, which is ironic because you were explicitly sent away from the town by him following the tragic death of your parents in a house fire. It’s been several years since you left. Returning isn’t something that you had considered, but the vague letter you received about tying up loose ends was on fancy stationary and looked official enough.
What was supposed to be a quick trip to collect personal belongings and sign some legal documents soon spirals into a grim mystery when you learn of the odd circumstances surrounding your grandfather’s death and start experiencing vivid nightmares.
Familiar faces are all around; you know some of them as former childhood friends, rivals, or neighbors, but they may become current allies as you all try to unravel what exactly is going on in this small, seemingly idyllic, forested town.
A feeling of unease grows with each sleepless night spent within Fernweh’s borders, but you can’t leave yet…
It won’t let you.
Play as a man, woman, or non-binary person with the ability to customize your sexuality, fashion style, physical features, room theme, etc.
Allow your personality, habits, decisions, and relationships to influence how you face-off against what lurks within Fernweh like in a horror film/book.
Experience different types of romantic burns and tropes (rivals to lovers, friends to lovers, unrequited love (or is it…?), no strings attached, and more) alongside different types of horror (dread, cosmic, supernatural, survival, and more) as you progress through the series.
Develop ‘something’ (the choice is yours) with the 4 romance options; there are 5 romance routes that are fully integrated into the plot.
Create friendships and relationships with the main cast of characters that are tracked by different point systems.
Understand your past, your parents’ death, and what really happened to not only your family, but to you.
Add to (or take away from) an inventory system that will impact/unlock certain choices later in the game. Clues, weapons, odd items, etc.
Discover that there are more than just small town politics at play; factions will remember how you treat them and may help or hurt you in the future books. (Book 1 is about hints/discovery, while we learn more in Book 2.)
Fight, resist, flee, struggle, or adapt to face whatever is invading your nightmares and the town; there is more to it than a boring ole’ monster…Much more.
Reblogs are greatly appreciated; thanks for your support! <3

Leo my love...
I do distinctly remember you, back in the day, answering some asks about if the RO's appearance will change too during the series, with your answer being yes.
My question is if this plan has changed ? Hopefully not.
And if not, would you be willing to share with us what kind of changes you have planned for our dear RO's ?
Oh yeah, that hasn't changed haha, depending on the path the ROs will change appearance, powers, and in some cases shift personality a little. I have plans to execute a time skip of sorts, where you'll be reintroduced to the ROs as their evolutions.
For the sake of spoilers, I won't really go too in-depth on my plans for everything, but I can talk a bit about the general design concept of each ROs path that I want to take with them since it's probably a long way until that point anyway haha.
----------------
Good Influence E: They remain relatively unchanged, doubling down on their more heroic nature to protect people. Their power focuses on speed, so their hairstyle becomes more windswept in the process. Wears casual top and shorts.
Bad Influence E: They're much more jaded and wear a greyscale zip-up hoodie and jeans (stubble if they're male). They focus on the destructive nature of their power to rid the world of evil. Unlike their counterpart, they mostly walk and aren't in a big hurry, casually deleting whoever gets in their way.
-----------------
Rebellion R: They have a robin hood mentality, using their elevated luck to pull off heists gentleman-thief style, calling card and all. To fit, they wear a simplistic gold masquerade mask and business casual.
Reclamation R: Based on a mafia motif with a gold-lined suit and tie and trilby hat. Their eyes also glow gold in this pathway from the general use of his power to cause misfortune to others.
-----------------
Peace L: They have a fortune teller motif with slight gypsy inspiration, wearing more robe/yukata style clothing. They learn how to focus their premonition and see further and clearer into the future.
Resolve L: They've evolved to have more Hospian shinobi attire, and their power has evolved into very in-depth clairvoyance of the immediate area.
-----------------
Soldier V: They've specialized into a Sniper utilizing a long-range bolt-action rifle and wearing a tactical vest and shemagh. Their hair has turned from silver to stark white. They utilize their power to create smokescreen and artillery.
Civilian V: They've learned how to fly a refurbished Spitfire plane from the pre-collapse era and can materialize one at will, though they've lost most of their arsenal doing so. They wear a loosely decorated bomber jacket, silver scarf, and have styled/pinned their hair.
----------------
Cooperation P: has a thin red jacket and fireproof bandages covering burn marks on their hands and partway up their arms. Their power has evolved to carry them on burning wings and used in tandem with their spear.
Competition P: Has fireproof bandages covering the majority of their burn-marked body and replacing their upper clothing. Most of their skin has developed a reddish tint and their hair has an ember glow when they use their power without regulation.
---------------
Masochism M: They have a slight reaper motif. Their skin is spotted with hints of frost and their breath has a constant mist. They use their power against the blade of their spear to create a scythe and drastically drop the temperature of the immediate area. Their hair now has subtle white highlights.
Alternate M: They use their power to summon spears of ice and have more of an ice-mage motif. Their hair has more broad strokes of white and blue frost. They have a constant need to wear gloves and an arctic coat.
--------------
Insanity Raven: They wear an open black cloak/long coat that shows black markings etched into the side of their abdomen and snaking up to their neck made by the overuse of their power. Their hair is longer and they've developed a subtle red glint in their eyes whenever they use their power to steal people into a pocket dimension and condemn them to their fate.
Therapy Raven: They wear moderate dress wear and a blank mask that covers their entire face. They use their power as more of unlimited storage space for items and teleportation platforms than their counterpart. They're generally a lot more cleaned up in appearance on this path.
--------------
Speed demon S: They wear a leather riding jacket decorated with numerous colorful patches, a checkered scarf, and their token riding goggles. They use their power in tandem with Sandrider to create extremely fast dust devils and sand storms to boost their speed.
Troublemaker S: They wear cargo jeans and dusted tank top along with a dark bandana they use to cover their face and neck. Their hair has subtle red and yellow highlights. They use their power to cause persistent sandstorms and locus swarms while keeping a small arsenal of Molotov's and spray paint on hand.
--------------
Royal F: They've obtained a stylish crown and generally dress lavishly in expensive silken black/dark green suits/dresses with floral motifs etched into them. Their power is used to create debilitating toxins and poisons, utilizing the worst of nature for their purposes.
Commoner F: They specialized their archery, and wear a simplistic hemp tunic and archer's cowl interwoven with leaves for camouflage. Their hair is grown out and undone, dotted with the occasional flower or twig. They use their power to create a forest hunting ground along a wide area.
--------------
As a little bonus, I'll say there's two additional protagonist characters that have yet to be introduced that are also applicable to this time skip change.
One is a Hospian sword user with a samurai motif that has wind-based powers.
The other is a Vestian assassin with a jumping spider motif that uses garrote-like threads
--------------
Hopefully that helps to give you a little idea of what direction I'm going with these characters! I try to make the evolutions as interesting as possible while still sticking with the general foundation of the character. Some of these evolutions may not really make sense, but keep in mind there's a lot of in between stuff I have planned to make these changes a much more subtle and natural thing haha.
As mentioned in an earlier post, helvling MCs will look a little more like their Bound helspawn entity in the revised demo. This means that they'll also have access to a few of their monstrous abilities a little earlier. :')
The following texts are how they will be perceived in their 'standard' form (as written in-game):
Nokken:
"You appear mostly human at a quick glance, but a closer look soon reveals your otherworldly nature; the hair on your head seems to slightly undulate and sway as if underwater, and your eyes shine with a silvery glow. Your ears taper upwards into points and shimmering, iridescent patches of skin cover your entire body. Rows of serrated teeth fill your mouth, each individual tooth sharp and pointed."
Barghest:
"You appear mostly human at a quick glance, but a closer look soon reveals your otherworldly nature; the whites of your eyes are completely black, making most people who look you in the eye recoil in instinctive fear. Shadows seem to cling to your form, moving in erratic and unnatural ways as if they had a mind of their own. Your canines are long and pointed, while razor-sharp claws tip your hands and feet."
Sylvan:
"You appear mostly human at a quick glance, but a closer look soon reveals your otherworldly nature; curling from your forehead is a pair of antlers with a bark-like texture, while a faint golden glow seems to emit from a golden ring around your eyes. Your ears taper into sharp points and the texture of your skin seems to resemble bark in some places. Vines and blooms seem to sprout from your very body, entwining themselves around your limbs and in your hair."
Basilisk:
"You appear mostly human at a quick glance, but a closer look soon reveals your otherworldly nature; two horns protrude from thickened ridges on your forehead, and your fingers and toes are tipped with sharp black claws. Your skin shimmers with an almost metallic sheen under certain lighting. Most striking, perhaps, are the snake-like slits of your pupils, while the long retractable fangs in your upper and lower jaw are slightly less apparent."
What are the different hybrids you can be and what does that mean for you?
Anonymous asked:
What are the different types of faeries and what are they like?
Funnily enough, I think that this post from another one of your asks sums up the power previews pretty well!
But for any newcomers, here’s the low-down on the faere names and their general presence versus the others. But remember: Playing as a hybrid of a certain faere type doesn’t mean you have to abide by these generalizations, but some are better at certain tactics and play-styles than others!
Tervalon - Earth
The tervalon place emphasis on strength and straightforwardness, but can at times be seen as stubborn and unwilling to be flexible with others.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the architects.
Encantus - Emotions
The encantus place emphasis on insight and emotional intelligence, but can at times be seen as manipulative and extremely judgmental of others.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the diplomats.
Caldras - Fire
The caldras place emphasis on passion and free expression, but can at times be seen as brash and a bit too hot to handle in their tactics.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the summoners.
Vitaura - Animals
The vitaura place emphasis on empathy and communication, but can at times be seen as undisciplined and eccentric due to their animal communication skills.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the animal-whisperers.
Illumbris - Light
The illumbris place emphasis on stealth, showmanship, and wits, but can at times be seen as superficial and untrustworthy due to their talents in espionage.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the performers.
Florixen - Plants
The florixen place emphasis on nourishment and self-improvement, but can at times be seen as feeble and tangled with their flowery versus thorny dualities.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the healers.
Cryocier - Ice
The cryocier place emphasis on patience and fairness in judgement, but can at times be seen as cold (ha ha) and detached from the world around them.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the judges.
Tsunisir - Water
The tsunisir place emphasis on flexibility and clarity, but can at times be seen as fickle and passive when it comes to taking sides in any sort of conflict.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the historians.
Exaelios - Air
The exaelios place emphasis on speed and improvisation, but can at times be seen as flighty and cowards who flee at the smallest notice of trouble.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the messengers.
Mourninx - Death
The mourninx place emphasis on balance and acceptance of the inevitable, but can at times be seen as ominous and offset people due to their jobs as reapers.
Outside of their usual duties, they serve as the executioners.
hi! just played the demo and thought it was really interesting! (sol already owns my heart 🥺) but i have a few questions if you don't mind: 1. can you briefly explain the difference between the different origins? do you get different stats? 2. what is the general opinion on people who don't follow a religion? 3. is there gonna be a huge consequence if we choose to not follow a god (since the game's title is "faith of gods")? (1/2)
(2/2) 4. who of the ros are religious and what's their opinion of an atheist mc? sorry for the questions, i'm just really interested in your game and can't wait for more! 💕
Hi! Thank you !! And I’m happy to answer any questions, so don’t worry lol
Sol and Flor are both religious, but in different ways, and they both struggle with their faith.
Sol’s reasons are a spoiler to their character arc, but they’re faithful only in the sense that they believe the gods to exist. Beyond that, they’re lost. An atheist MC, a faithful one, neither would have any impact on Sol’s view of them. The MC is who they are.
Flor, however, was not only raised to follow the faith, but their father is one of the Saints to the High Priestess, and they’ve lived a large part of their life in Dirth’kinai, which is the birthplace of the human faith. Religion is a big part of their history, even if how they feel on it is muddled. As for an atheist MC, they would admire one, as they seem to have a much clearer outlook on life than they do.
Khiita is religious, too, but she doesn’t follow the faith of the human countries (Mydras/Sedruadal/Astium). An MC being atheist isn’t something she would fully understand, as in her mind, the gods are very much real & tangible things. It’s something she would ultimately be fine with, when she got over her confusion.
Cían isn’t religious, and has never much cared for it, both of which are rare things for the noble families of Mydras. He’d be more at ease around an atheist MC than an overly devout one.
What is the general opinion on people who don’t follow a religion?
It varies depending on the country you’re from/in.
In Mydras, being nonreligious is a big deal, as Mydras is where the faith was founded, and most people there are religious in some sense. A nonreligious native of the country is thought to be on the path to corruption, and are either shamed or shunned. Those not from Mydras (but still nonreligious) are typically just avoided, as it’s a ‘lesser offense’.
In Astium it’s a big deal as well, but only in the capital or the larger trade cities, which have stronger ties to Mydras than the outer towns. You won’t be shamed for it, but you’ll definitely be the subject of gossip within the Court.
In Sedruadal, it’s a nonissue. It might get some eyebrow raises or surprise in the border cities but for the most part, it’s much more commonplace. Worship tends to be either nonexistent, fall to the Sedrulish Ascended only (Kreia/Oxanah/Goem), or fall to the spirits that guard the land.
Is there gonna be a huge consequence if we choose not to follow a god?
Not in the way you might think. Choosing to have no faith sets you on a separate path, but all roads lead to the end, if that makes sense. It is something that will have an impact on how Chapter Two goes, but the same applies to being faithful and what god you follow.
Can you briefly explain the difference between the different origins? Do you get different stats?
TLDR; it effects flavor text, (some) available choices, and starting stats. It doesn’t affect the game endings, just how you get there.
It’s mentioned briefly here, but essentially, the origins set you on mini-branches at certain points in the game, as well as have an impact on the flavor text of a lot of scenes.
A good example of what changes is the “home dream” at the end of the Prologue. You still do the same things in each one (decide your appearance and gender), and the ending is still the same, but the atmosphere varies greatly.
Smaller details about the MC change as well. Myd!MCs are a single child with a mother and father; Sed!MCs have an older sister, a younger sibling, and two mothers; Ast!MCs have two older sisters and an eldest brother, and their only parent is their dad. Ast!MCs have traveled all over Astium, whereas Myd!MCs have never left Dirth’kinai, and Sed!MCs have never seen the ocean.
Some choices are locked behind an origin. Ast!MCs are the only ones who can have dyed hair, while Sed!MCs are the only ones able to have ash blonde/white hair. Myd!MCs can have a unique history with one of the ROs, Flor, so there’s also that.
Some NPC interactions/reactions are dependent on your origin choice, too, but this is something more minor. In Chapter One, there are characters you can talk to, and who you get depends on your origin.
As for stats: yes, it does!
Mydras MCs have a small starting boost to magic, dexterity, and tact. They also have a boost to their starting relationship with Flor.
Sedruadal MCs have a small starting boost to dexterity, strength, will, and cunning. They also have a boost to their relationship with Sol.
Astium MCs have a larger starting boost in magic and knowledge. They also have a boost to their starting relationship with Khiita.
I think I got everything, but if something needs to be clarified, feel free to ask!
One thing I’ve learned about writing is ”give everything a face”. It’s no good to write passively that the nobility fled the city or that the toxic marshes were poisoning the animals beyond any ability to function. Make a protagonist see how a desperate woman in torn silks climbs onto a carriage and speeds off, or a two-headed deer wanders right into the camp and into the fire. Don’t just have an ambiguous flock of all-controlling oligarchy, name one or two representatives of it, and illustrate just how vile and greedy they are as people.
it’s bad to have characters who serve no purpose in the story, but giving something a face is a perfectly valid purpose.

New Part: 10 Lethal Injury Ideas
If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain, here are some ideas:
1. Sprained Ankle
A common injury that can severely limit mobility. This is useful because your characters will have to experience a mild struggle and adapt their plans to their new lack of mobiliy. Perfect to add tension to a chase scene.
2. Rib Contusion
A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult, helping you sneak in those ragged wheezes during a fight scene. Could also be used for something sport-related! It's impactful enough to leave a lingering pain but not enough to hinder their overall movement.
3. Concussions
This common brain injury can lead to confusion, dizziness, and mood swings, affecting a character’s judgment heavily. It can also cause mild amnesia.
I enjoy using concussions when you need another character to subtly take over the fight/scene, it's an easy way to switch POVs. You could also use it if you need a 'cute' recovery moment with A and B.
4. Fractured Finger
A broken finger can complicate tasks that require fine motor skills. This would be perfect for characters like artists, writers, etc. Or, a fighter who brushes it off as nothing till they try to throw a punch and are hit with pain.
5. Road Rash
Road rash is an abrasion caused by friction. Aka scraping skin. The raw, painful sting resulting from a fall can be a quick but effective way to add pain to your writing. Tip: it's great if you need a mild injury for a child.
6. Shoulder Dislocation
This injury can be excruciating and often leads to an inability to use one arm, forcing characters to confront their limitations while adding urgency to their situation. Good for torture scenes.
7. Deep Laceration
A deep laceration is a cut that requires stitches. As someone who got stitches as a kid, they really aren't that bad! A 2-3 inch wound (in length) provides just enough pain and blood to add that dramatic flair to your writing while not severely deterring your character.
This is also a great wound to look back on since it often scars. Note: the deeper and wider the cut the worse your character's condition. Don't give them a 5 inch deep gash and call that mild.
8. Burns
Whether from fire, chemicals, or hot surfaces, burns can cause intense suffering and lingering trauma. Like the previous injury, the lasting physical and emotional trauma of a burn is a great wound for characters to look back on.
If you want to explore writing burns, read here.
9. Pulled Muscle
This can create ongoing pain and restrict movement, offering a window to force your character to lean on another. Note: I personally use muscle related injuries when I want to focus more on the pain and sprains to focus on a lack of mobility.
10. Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon can cause chronic pain and limit a character's ability to perform tasks they usually take for granted. When exploring tendonitis make sure you research well as this can easily turn into a more severe injury.
This is a quick, brief list of ideas to provide writers inspiration. Since it is a shorter blog, I have not covered the injuries in detail. This is inspiration, not a thorough guide. Happy writing! :)

pressing their forehead into something cool or comfortable (this could be an array of things. the table, the floor, someones leather jacket, their water bottle, the countertop)
warm to the touch, or heat radiating from them (could be noticed if someone’s gauging their temperature with their hands, hugging them, or just generally touching them)
leaning into people’s touch, or just spontaneously leaning on them (like pressing into their hand when someone’s checking their temp, or just, like, literally walking up and laying their head on them from fatigue. bonus points if the character is usually feral and the other is scared to engage™︎)
falling asleep all over the place (at the dinner table, on their homework, in the car, in the bathroom — just being so exhausted from doing literally nothing)
being overly emotional (crying over things that don’t usually bother them, like their siblings arguing, or their homework, or literally just nothing)
stumbling/careening/staggering into things (the wall, furniture, other people. there is no coordination in feverish brains. running into chairs, hitting the door, falling over the couch, anything and everything)
slurring their words (could be from fatigue or pain. connecting words that shouldn’t be connected, murdering all of their conversations with the excessive use of ‘mm’ and ‘nn’ in place of words) (this is my favorite thing ever)
being overly touchy (basically like a sick kid — just hold them, please. do that thing where you brush their hair back out of their face, or rub circles on their back, or snuggle them. they won’t care. bonus points if this is also the feral character and they refuse to believe it afterwards)
being extremely resistant to touch (flinching away when they usually don’t so someone can’t feel the fever, not letting themselves be touched because they’re so tired they just know they’ll be putty in their hands if they do)
growing aggressive or being extremely rude (it’s a defense mechanism — they feel vulnerable and are afraid of being manipulated or deceived while they’re ill)
whimpering/whining/groaning (this was in my “characters in pain” post but it’s so good that i’m putting it here too. this shite is gold, especially if it’s just an involuntary reaction to their symptoms)
having nightmares caused by a fever and/or delirium (crying and murmuring in their sleep, or being awake but completely out of it and convinced they’re somewhere else)
making themselves as small as possible (curling up into a ball everywhere they lay, hunching over slightly when standing, wrapping their arms around themselves)
sleeping in the bathroom floor because they keep getting sick over and over (bonus if someone finds them all weak and pitiful. bonus bonus if they find them there in the morning only to learn they’ve been there all night)
using their hands/other body parts to clamp over their mouth so nothing can come out (like pulling their knees up to their chest and using that, or like, their arm, y’know) (~maccreadysbaby who has emetophobia suddenly gets very awkward about this post~) (~yes i have a phobia of puke and still write this happening to my characters, shut up~) (~it’s about the hurt/comfort okay~)
sympathy pukers (people who aren’t the sick ones but get nauseous/vomit when they see someone else throw up) (~aka me~) (~okay I’m done now~)
dry heaving (it’s gross, but good for making your characters absolutely freaking miserable)
rolling/churning/spinning/cramping/ lurching and all those awesome words that describe what stomachs do when sick (i hate these words with a deep, fiery passion. but they’re good for writing or whatever)
how to write creepy stories
over describe things
under describe things
short sentences in rapid succession build tension
single sentence paragraphs build dread
uncanny valley = things that aren't normal almost getting it right
third person limited view
limited expressions
rot, mold, damage, age, static, flickering, espsecially in places it shouldn't be
limited sights for your mc - blindness, darkness, fog
being alone - the more people there are, the less scary it is
intimate knowledge, but only on one side
your reader's imagination will scare them more than anything you could ever write. you don't have to offer a perfectly concrete explanation for everything at the end. in fact, doing so may detract from your story.
As I dive into researching signs of fear for my horror WIP, I wanted to share some of the most compelling and visceral reactions I’ve come across. Whether you’re writing a chilling scene or crafting a character’s panic, these 20 signs of fear can help bring tension and realism to your story.
Hyperventilating — sucking in air but never feeling like it’s enough
Chest tightens — feels like a weight or hands pressing down
Limbs shaking violently, knees buckling
Complete loss of muscle control — collapsing or unable to stand
Cold sweat soaking through clothes
Heart hammering so hard they feel it in their throat or head
Tunnel vision — the world narrowing down to one terrifying focal point
Ringing in the ears or sudden deafness, like the world drops away
Dizziness / feeling faint / vision blurring
Dry mouth — unable to speak or even scream
Screaming / sobbing / gasping — involuntary vocal outbursts
Panic run — bolting without thinking, tripping over everything
Clawing at their own skin / chest / throat — like trying to escape their body
Begging / pleading out loud even if no one’s there
Repeating words or phrases — “No, no, no” / “This isn’t happening”
Hiding instinctively — diving under tables, closets, or corners
Desperate grabbing — reaching for someone, anything solid
Loss of bladder or bowel control (for extreme terror)
Total mental shutdown — frozen, slack-jawed, staring blankly
Memory blackout — later can’t recall what happened during the worst moment

I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place. Not all the words are as useable as others, and some might take tricky wording to pull off, but I hope these prove useful to all you writers out there!

I’ll start this first DR by saying how I’m going to format these. Each post will be accompanied by a photo I have taken from something I did that day. It does not necessarily mean that the photo is related to the DR. I just want a photo in it to make it look *nicer*. I’ll try my best to keep these brief - as in no more than a 1000 words each.
Today has been quite a whirlwind of events. I decided to embark on a new journey and have this blog be evidence of it. Why? I guess I finally decided I need to start expressing myself more - in ways that I’m not necessarily comfortable with or used to. So now I’ve decided to make Daily Routines and in general, be more active on this blog. This is marked by the change of name, description, and pictures for my profile.
First I’ll start with the name; Why “Ode To Overstreet”? Well it comes from one of my favorite songs of the same name by one of my favorite bands of all time: Console Warriors. So the name is near and dear to my heart - but I’ve given it my own meaning as well. I want to think of it as a description of this blog. “Ode to Overstreet” meaning in a sense: the song of my life. A far reaching metaphor, but I feel it works.
“Ode” meaning song and then “to Overstreet“ meaning describing a street where it may be difficult getting past (or in this case, going over).
The description on my profile is self explanatory. The new profile picture I found on Reddit on r/animalcollective. I just found it cool, especially since it was inspired by another one of my favorite bands of all time. I wish I could credit the original author. The cover photo is just a picture of myself that I’ve really liked. You can search my old posts to find it.
Well, there you have it - a full description of my blog. I guess to wrap up this first DR, I’ll comment on the picture I chose. This was a delicious cup of coffee I had while writing all of this. To me, it symbolizes the work I did to transform this blog and the effort I’m putting into it. A cup of coffee makes the creative juices flow.
