Update: Where I’ve been

Okay so this post is gonna be just a quick update on where I’ve been considering that I haven’t posted in a very long time.

So the reason I’ve been inactive for so long is that I just lost the motivation to post anything, I’ve also been dealing with a lot of personal things that I’m not comfortable going into, one of the main reasons is that I’ve just kind of drifted from the beetlejuice fandom, I still ship beetlebabes and love all beetlejuice media but I’ve somehow just drifted from the fandom.

Another thing I feel like mentioning is that my main fandom has changed to a fandom I feel very comfortable in and have made friends in, I haven’t made many friends in the beetlejuice let along beetlebabes fandom but I doesn’t mean I didn’t feel welcome, the babes have been so welcoming and the community they’ve helped build for other beetlebabes shippers is amazing and so kind to others in the community. 

This isn’t a goodbye post of any means to the community, It’s just an update post on where I’ve been while I haven’t post for so long. This isn’t the end of my blog either or even a change in theme because I will be back and posting a lot of beetlebabes content very soon Including edits, fanfiction, and of course one of my favourite kinds of post headcanons.

So until my next post I’ll see you guys again very soon and thank you for reading this post and following my blog.

𝐼'𝓂 𝐵𝒶𝒸𝓀!

Hello my absolute lovely followers! I’m back! I’ve been on quite a hiatus, due to work, school, & family. My life has been so busy since 2020 started up! January was quite the busy month with heading back to college & work, my cousin’s baby being born, my cousin & my friend both turning 20, having 1 mental breakdown, & the flu sadly going around the school I work at. 

February has begun y’all! Also been a busy 5 days for me! I have turned 20 years old, watched the 2020 Super Bowl on my Birthday with my family, celebrated my cousin’s baby turning 1 week old, been to a Sunday Farmer’s Market, caught a nasty sinus cold, watched Maleficent 2: Mistress of Evil for the first time, gotten my nails done to celebrate my birthday, & gotten through 2 days of work this week.

Story Time!!

So yesterday, my hubby and I were out of town, because he was participating in a special Magic: The Gathering draft event (Spring Flourishes), and he took second place in a 6 person pod.

While he was doing that, I was doing my own thing at a free table and trying to make a stockpile of Pokémon Eggs and had the display ones… Well, on display! Two girls saw them and was instantly curious about them and wanted to hold them and I was like, “sure!” One of the Dads took notice and asked about them and I explained that these were crochet Pokémon Eggs based off the kilometer eggs on Pokémon Go and that I plan on selling them on my online shop and possibly at a craft fair if make enough and get accepted.

The two girls wanted the 12K and Shadow Egg and the Dad wanted to buy them. Told them they were $5 each, but he wanted to pay DOUBLE the amount! I thanked them and the girls were so happy and were the proud owners of their own eggs!

I hope Moonlight and Sunlight are enjoying their new homes.

I think that that interaction yesterday more than ever gave me more confidence to try and make a lot of cute amigurumi items to show off and sell to folks interested. It really makes me happy seeing people look at my work and be genuinely happy taking them home. Makes the hard work and wrist pain worth it to me.

UPDATE 2:

So. Many. Granny Squares. ಠ_ಠ

I'm estimating about... 70 or so that need to be made? I was roughly measuring about 10 squares around my torso and 7 squares down. This isn't counting the sleeves—which aren't granny squares, but a granny stitch instead. I'm having to divide my crochet time. This is a personal project, but I also have crochet commissions I gotta finish up.

Current commission requests are a 6ft x 6ft/1.8m x 1.8m Polyamorous-Pansexual Pride Blanket done in a C2C(corner-to-corner) stitch, along with two Pansexual Pride Bees, and a new commission request of a 1ft/0.3m tall Cheese the Chao amigurumi.

So... I saw Sonic 3...

I... Am SO TEMPTED to crochet this goddamn beautiful abomination of a sweater. It seems simple enough. It's basically a bunch of granmy squares with sewn on amigurumi donuts. It would be time consuming, but I am so tempted...

Would anyone want one? Or am I the only one who absolutely adored this sweater? 🤔

UPDATE:

I'm currently going through my yarn stash to collect colors. Sooooo far—warning, I'm in hyperfixation mode—I got all the colors I believe I need listed. These color names are based from the JoAnn store brand Big Twist.

Base Sweater: Varsity Blue Sapphire Varsity Navy Blue

Donuts(est 19 counted)/Sherff Badges/Letters: Baby Pink Lilac/Soft Purple Nile Green Toffee Cream/Caramel Varsity Gold Varsity Red White

Now the next thing I gotta do is list all the donut color combos. They come in sprinkles and two types of swirls.

I'm going through my yarn stash(I don't have a problem, I have a perfectly healthy amount of yarn collected, shut up) and see what colors I have. It isn't gonna be perfect, but it'll be close enough color-wise. I will be documenting/recording the whole process of the sweater.

If—IF—I'm successful on this and if I get any requests from folks who wanna buy one of their own, it'll be posted on my Ko-Fi page along with all my other crochet goods.

...Hell, maybe I could do a giveaway if I ever reached 500 or 1000 followers on my BlueSky. That's something to think about if that ever happened. 🤔

From what I've read and talking with some friends about the matter is this:

Artists, we're more than likely screwed either way when it comes to the bullshit AI is. It's just another aspect that has become integrated into the Internet.

Migrating and blindly posting onto Bluesky and other common sites other artists may use would put us at risk.

Surprisingly, as much as Twitter/Xitter is a toxic cesspool it is, it is weirdly the safer option than other sites, simply because it is harder to scrap stuff for AI. With Twitter, you only have to deal with Grok. With other sites, who knows what you have to deal with.

It is annoying. VERY annoying. And frustrating. Because as artists, we work hard to hone our craft and skills and for AI to just swoop in and steal it and claim it as their's is pretty much a slap in the face, but... As it's been said many times "Welcome To The Internet".

The best we can do is try to stay safe, try to be our authentic selves and continue to put our blood, sweat and tears into our work. AI can copy us, but they could never, and never will be us. Our work has soul, our work shows our perfection and flaws, our work speaks for itself. Essentially, just keep fucking drawing.

Stay strong, everyone. We gotta do our best and stay DETERMINED and PERSEVERE!!

And to those AI "artists"...

Some other things I found out:

I've seen people talk about things, such as "Glaze" and "Nightshade" as a means of making it harder for AI to try and take things from people's art. I've considered it because it would be a good "fuck you" to AI, but after chatting with some friends about this matter to better understand these programs and if it's legit, I've learned that while it may be good workaround to screw with AI, it'll most likely be a fruitless endeavor because it'll only be a matter of time to until AI finds a workaround on *that*.

If we truly wanted to make our voices heard, take action through legal representation, speak to local leaders—make it to where if people want to use AI, they follow proper rules and protocols that are deemed acceptable.

If you can't or don't feel like doing that, just focus on your art, grow your audience, make that money if you're trying to make a career outta it. Just know that your art is REAL art. Not AI.

Artists UNITE!!

So... With all these changes going on, I got a few things to say.

The new "Block" feature. I put quotes on that because with the new changes made, it is essentially useless. As it says, any accounts blocked will still be able to view your content, but won't be able to engage with them, such as leaving a comment or retweeting or anything. BUT if you truly want to protect your posts and limit who can see what, you can lock your account. But that means you won't be able to get more engagement or new followers.

This also means that NSFW artists/content creators who've blocked minors from seeing their content? Yeah, those minors are gonna have full access anyways and there us nothing we can do about it except maybe report them.

Any abusers/stalkers who like to keep tabs on your accounts? They can see, regardless of being blocked.

This has got to be a violation and Google Play and Apple App Store should put X on blast for it.

The second thing!!

If any of you have seen the tweet going around, there has been a recent change to the Terms of Service and will be effective come November 15th.

It'll let Twitter use your posts (images, videos, audio) to train their Grok AI. You can opt out, but come Novwmber 15th, you just automatically get opted back in.

I dunno about y'all, BUT I DO NOT CONSENT TO HAVING MY STUFF USED FOR AI PURPOSES!!

And if you feel the same, I have a suggestion:

I think that we, as artists and content creators, should unite together and nuke our Twitter/X accounts. I know it's a lot, especially those who have really put a lot of work into it, but would you really want to have all that hard work just be fed to an AI?

I say any and all content we have on Twitter should immediately be migrated over to other sites.

Bluesky is always nice and have no complaints so far and since these changes Twitter/X made, they've gain a huuuuuge amount of traffic.

Cora is another place I've been hearing about. I have no opinions about it so far, but did make an account. I've heard they're very anti-AI, so that's good!

Pillowfort could still be a go-to possibly. Hell, maybe even here on Tumblr since it's been getting active again!

We've got options! We can give one last fuck you to Elongated Muskrat to show what we think about his new changes! But that choice is ultimately up to you.
