The hypnagogic state : how to reach it.

The Hypnagogic State : How To Reach It.
The Hypnagogic State : How To Reach It.
The Hypnagogic State : How To Reach It.

The hypnagogic state is a state where we naturally go into before sleeping, a sweet spot moment before sleeping and still being awake, a state where it is so powerful to be able to shift, get in the void, or basically do anything.

Now it requires NOTHING, it only requires one small thing that might sound tricky.

Staying awake long enough for it to come by on it's own, and actually on average it takes 10-5 mins from each person to enter it aware.

The steps:

Lay flat on your back (not needed, but many results come from laying on the back)

Do. Not. Care, just go with what you usually do to fall asleep, but one thing? You're not falling asleep, you're watching your body fall asleep, that sweet spot where your body is about to fall asleep? That's hypnagogia

Actually don't move, it may give your mind signs you're still not sleeping, now just lay there and try not to sleep while focusing on the blackness behind your eyelids.

You will start seeing flashing images or swirly things or even just flashing lights and imagery, this is the hypnagogia and you managed to reach it in just 10 mins of pretending to be asleep (acc it takes me 4)

Bam, that's the sweet spot, now affirm slowly for the void, or just sense your surroundings for shifting or maybe you can try your shifting method here! This state cannot argue back, you'll be immediately shifting in no time, and slipping in the void is so easy from it.

So really the whole steps is just "lay down, don't move, watch your eyelids, color seen? Hypnagogia reached, method or void procedure done, bam."

I managed to find a post on Reddit on how to keep your body awake, you can try 2 or 3 of them to keep yourself entertained, FULL CREDITS TO THE ONE WHO POSTED IT ON REDDIT (calaie_iscoolio):

"1. Looking in the darkness behind your eyelids

Basically what it says, when you close your eyes, just focus on the darkness until hypnagogic imagery begins to happen i.e. colors, shapes, literally anything that will show. When images begin to show up, do not interact or acknowledge what you are seeing, you can look at it, but don't try to control it and just let the images flow until you feel that the state is induced enough to where it won't disappear because you are "too" awake/aware.

2. "Forearm Up" Method

Another technique that basically helps with people who tend to fall asleep to quickly, basically lay down on your back like usual, lift your hand up in the air where your elbow is resting on your mattress, keep it there and as it slowly falls down that's where you'll begin to fall asleep, it'll drop and basically awake you back up.

I had also seen a shifter mention that they prefer to lay on their stomach and lifting their foot up in the air and basically do the same thing. This technique basically just wakes you back up.

3. Thomas Edison Method

Very similar to the "Forearm Up" Method, basically what Edison had done was he had held a steel ball in his hand, and when he began to fall asleep, the ball will drop and alert Edison awake, another technique to help with people to struggle to stay awake.

4. Imagine Constant Motion

Basically imagining something whether that be an animal or an object constantly moving like a horse galloping, a dogs tail wagging side to side, etc. (Pretty simple, for people who find it much easier to visualize).

5. Tire your body through out the day

During the day, you could do any tasks that would just tire your body out that leads up to your attempt to induce the state, it'll make it much easier for you to get into the state and induce it since your body is already tired enough to relax.

6. Repeating "hypnagogia"

This will mean you have you just repeat the words "hypnagogia" to yourself till you get tired enough and then hypnagogic imagery will eventually appear.

7. Counting

Basically just like regular shifting methods, you could focus on counting up to how much you want to until you begin to get the hypnagogic hallucinations, to keep yourself from falling asleep you could give yourself simple math questions just so it's enough to focus to answer it.

8. Imagining Randomness

Imagine literally anything that isn't related at all, i.e. horse, roof, apple, pen, desk, etc. Visualize and filter through random objects or animals that have no correlation and that will induce the hypnagogic imagery, randomness is key.

9. Focus on breathing

Similar to any shifting method, basically focusing on your breaths is another technique to induce the state. Literally just anything to keep your awareness occupied rather than letting your mind just shut down to go to sleep.

10. Sounds

Listening to anything in your environment, whether that be things happening outside, if it's raining listen to the rain, or if you've got headphones on listen to the music and focus that, keep your focus on the music so you don't fall asleep.

11. "Playing" a song in your head

Not necessarily listening to the song, but imagining the song playing in your head, whether that be your favorite song, if you know how it sounds like, imagine it playing and once you've entered the state, it will naturally play and you'll end up actually hearing the song.

12. Heartbeat

Basically just focus on your heartbeat. Listen to the amount of beats.

These are all the various of techniques you could use, you don't have to stick to one and can basicaally try them out, see which one you feel like works for you and go from there. A tip is also you could pick like 4 or 5 out of these 12 and just filter through the techniques if you can't just stick to one since you get uninterested quickly. (I get bored easily, do I normally do 8, 9, 7 and 4 just so I don't lose interest.)"

Good luck y'all!

hi just discovered a shifting superpower and it's called "going into the void state visualising what happened BEFORE you shift into the dr"

for example i always shift to when i wake up in my dr, so i was in the void state, imagining what happened while i was falling asleep

TELL ME WHY i literally got VIOLENT FLASHBACKS, LIKE ACTUAL MEMORIES, OF WHAT HAPPENED IN THE DR BEFORE I FELL ASLEEP

.

and it felt so much like i was already in my dr, like i was my dr self thinking about a memory, and i could see everything and EVERYTHING AND—

and then i got pulled out of it because i REALISED i felt like i was in my DR, and it kinda felt like that one transition where everything zooms out and then everything is just. black.

but MY EYES DIDN'T OPEN, EVERYTHING WAS LITERALLY JUST BLACK. i've been in the void state but THIS WAS DIFFERENT. it wasn't just a meditative state, it felt like i was for real in a completely black space, no up or down, nothing tangible around me

and then i got pulled back into the CR.

i will now be assuming that i'm a prophet and i only didn't manage to shift this time so that i could share the method with the masses and then shift the next time

what am i calling it?

Hi Just Discovered A Shifting Superpower And It's Called "going Into The Void State Visualising What

THE RECAP METHOD

how do you use the method?

pick any number to count to. the number isn't what matters, what matters is your intention; "i will enter the void state once i count to this number." if you get distracted/reminded of the CR while counting, start over.

you're in the void state. don't think about it too hard, don't go "wow i can't feel anything," because then you'll likely start to feel again, which will ground you back in reality and out of the void state.

while in the void state, pick a scenario for how you got to the point you'll shift to. play it out in your mind, visualise it; did you drink hot cocoa in the kitchen before coming back to your room for the night? was it tasty? did you talk to anyone? how were you feeling emotionally? did you fall asleep immediately? did you toss and turn? are you in bed alone, or with someone else, or with a pet? or maybe you're not in your own bedroom at all — you're with your S/O after a freaky (or not) night, or you're in the hospital after a car accident. it doesn't matter where you are, just make sure you know how you got there. you're not imagining, it already happened, it is done; you're REMEMBERING.

things might start feeling really real around here. that's fine. focus on the present; you're already in your DR, it's no big deal, you already shifted. right? right.

anyway, once you get to the target point, focus on that. affirm where, when, and with who you are, how you're feeling emotionally, etc. (for me, i affirm that i'm asleep in x place in my dr, so i'll wake up naturally when the shift is done). get in the mind of your DR self, and know, in your heart, that there is no difference between your DR and CR self, because you're already in your DR right now.

it's just normal shifting from here. ground yourself in your DR. rant to your subconscious about what you have planned for the day, how you feel about the people in your life, if you're excited for the outfit you preplanned today, if you hope it'll be a sunny day or maybe a rainy one. hell, use the 54321 method for panic attacks and tell yourself what you're seeing/feeling instead of checking if you're in your DR/checking the 3D for validation. just be your DR self, and your DR will appear around you. congratulations, you've shifted.

Hi Just Discovered A Shifting Superpower And It's Called "going Into The Void State Visualising What

(a/n): this is based heavily off my two best shifts, as well as @sheeezu's method. if you ask me, the key to shifting is literally just being your DR self (which @stilljuststardust explained better in their post). that's why this method (remembering) worked so well for me, that's why my last shift happened while i was thinking about my childhood in my DR, and that's why many people tell you to imagine being your DR self/getting in your DR self's mind so you can shift. someone once said your 4D/consciousness shifts first and the 3D/surroundings/senses follows after, and i think that's the best way to put it. of course, what works for me might not work for everyone, this is just based on my personal experience.

Hey Mason, what's your favorite method? 🙂

Hi! I don't really use methods, but I shift on command with something that has been named the ''zooming in'' method after I explained how it works for me!

I'll include a description I wrote for it a while ago for anyone who wants to give it a try :)

The method itself is extremely simple, and it can be used in basically any state; fully awake, before sleep or when just waking up, I reckon a lucid dream would work too! It should take around a few seconds, but it could be up to a few minutes to shift this way. Keep in mind to not overdo yourself, and take a break if you don't succeed after more than a few minutes, just try again later.

For the method you are going to close your eyes, and imagine the place you're shifting to. You DO NOT have to visualise!! but you can if you think it would help you. Imagine the place you're shifting to in front of you, as if you're looking directly at it, but from a zoomed out view. Personally I cannot visualise, so this is all based on feeling, not on actually seeing anything! For me it helps to imagine the energy of that place. And moreso 'remembering' it. Then all you do is zoom in, imagine said place rushing towards you, it's getting closer to you until you merge with it, and in the same thought your current surroundings get kind of pushed back or are ignored.

That's literally all there is to it! If I don't shift, I often notice myself feeling very dizzy and disoriented for a little bit, and for me it's the easiest way to just quickly get out of any place I'm at. Another way of describing it would for it to be like teleporting (although I don't think any of you here knows what it feels like). It's like you feel a bit of a rush, like you travelled for the slightest second, and then you're somewhere else.

It's the best way I can describe how I shift, and it works well for me. Other people have also had success with it based on comments I have received, but it's in no way the key to shifting. Remember that you can shift any way, anytime, anywhere. You can change or adjust anything you want, always💚

𝕞𝕪 𝕨𝕒𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕣𝕠𝕠𝕞

My waiting room is a magical, little cave. It is so cozy and comforting. The perfect place to think, calm down and plan my next shift. This is the first dr I will shift to. It is tucked away safely in a magical jungle. I am completly safe and free of other people there. I can go into the jugle and explore it, I meet animals there and they are friendly. I can pet all kinds of snakes, tigers, koalas. Climate rules do not apply there. I can freely teleport back to my cave.

𝕞𝕪 𝕨𝕒𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕣𝕠𝕠𝕞

I have a mini frigde that always has my favourite snacks. I am in the mood for sushi? It’s there. Ice cream? It’s there. The frige is also filled with my favourite drinks. I also have a bathroom, the water is always perfect in tempreature and clean. I can fully relax there. The ambience is unmatchable. I do not need go to the toilet.

𝕞𝕪 𝕨𝕒𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕣𝕠𝕠𝕞

Some perks of my waiting room

•a magical little fairy, she listens to me talking about my dr, cr etc. She helps me script and she keeps me company

•netflix and tiktok but with the ability to input and watch my own ideas for content.

•a notebook in which whatever I write becomes true in my wr

•magical window that helps me change my hair so I can see what suits me

•a door to my better cr

•a notebook in which I can script my better cr

reblog for ask! ᡣ𐭩 what scents remind you of your relationship? ᡣ𐭩 how does your s/o show love? ᡣ𐭩 what does the winter season look like for you two? ᡣ𐭩 what do summers look like for you + your s/o? ᡣ𐭩 when you think of them, what is the first song or lyric that sparkles into your mind? why does this remind you of them or your relationship? ᡣ𐭩 how do you celebrate your achievements together? ᡣ𐭩 how do you two spice up your relationship when things are feeling dull or monotonous in your lives? ᡣ𐭩 how does your s/o help soothe or ground you when you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious? ᡣ𐭩 how does your s/o make your inner child feel safe? ᡣ𐭩 what makes you want to “stick” with your s/o for the rest of your lives?

lemons and leather one summer when we were kids, i created a lemonade stand to raise money for non-profit wildlife and environmental organizations. Lorenzo (my brother) laughed at me, but Benjamin (s/o) gave me this look as if he was seeing me or rather the person i would become. that day smelled like heaven and freshly squeezed lemon. he always smells like his cologne (teakwood and leather), and yet somehow, a faint lemony scent follows him everywhere and i whenever i get a whiff i sometimes wonder if it is on purpose.

affection Benjamin had always been one of few words, he's quiet around people he doesn't know very well, if at all. he's an artist, he loves sketching and writing, sometimes even a highlighted quote in a book is how he'll show his affection. he's also a hoverer; he's not talkative but he's always near. he's shows his love quietly, quality time, physical touch, and small gifts!

comfort in company both Benji and i are homebodies, we are friends when i shift, so we tend to not spend as much time alone as we do with our friend group. when we're at social gatherings we stay close to each other our of comfort and habit. we'd both rather stay in by the fire and order takeout during winter holiday.

the summer versions of us despite our lack of need to socialize, we do have a pretty big friends group–especially during the summer when we head down to Cousins. we can typically be found going on morning muffin/coffee runs, eating lunch out by our pools, and on the beach at bonfires after noon. there's the deb ball every beach season and organized beach-clean-ups we help set-up and take part in. it might be the summer air, or maybe it's just the magic of Cousins, but we come out of our shell this time of year.

a song: a memory "It was summer when i saw your face, looked like a teenage runaway..." (Rollercoaster, Bleachers). this song always pops into my head when i think of Benjamin. yes, we share a love for the classics, but we also love a good summer song. when i hear this song, i instantly think of our relationship and what could possibly change this summer.

love in the little things when i receive an award or accomplish a goal i'd set out for myself, i always celebrate with my family and friends (which includes Benji). he'll normally slip me a piece of paper or a small present privately. when he receives an award i'm more vocal about my congratulations. he gets embarrassed about it, but i know he secretly adores it. this happens with birthdays and holidays as well–except Halloween, we're both October-maniacs and are not afraid to show it.

summer of what ifs our entire lives it's been this "will they, won't they?" kind of relationship. i've known i've had a crush on him since the age of 13, this summer i'm being a bit more bold about myself–i'm not just looking at him anymoe–at least i'm trying not to. he's got this silent energy about him that keeps me wondering if he sees me more than his best friends little sister.

held, just long enough i'm typically very nervous before giving a speech–i do my best to be a good advocate for climate change and how it affects the environment. i am the vice president of key club and–and with that comes a lot of public speaking–which intensifies my anxiety. only my close family and friends know this about me, they encourage me with smiles and nice words, but, Benji, he always takes a moment to hold my hand. he'll squeeze it three times before letting go, almost like a quiet countdown.

the echo of addie everyone calls me Adelina or Lina. Benji's the only one that calls me Addie. he picked it up around age 9. my father had just congratulated me and had said, "adda girl" to which Ren and Benji had overheard and snickered at. i'd made a face at them and right after Benji had said, "it kind of fits, though, Adda–Addie." at the time i'd hated the nickname, but as we got older, it became one of the few things i still had of my childhood. he only calls me Adelina when he's mad at me, but Benji's never mad at me.

before we knew what it meant for me, it's always been him. he was there when i was born, my brother's best friends. the boy next door. i grew up with him. i laughed with him. he was there for my losses and my wins. he saw me through every phase i've ever had. he knew everything about me even when he didn't know anything at all. i was his before we even knew what that meant.

what is astral projection and how is it connected to shifting? (sourced information)

astral projection

noun

a supernatural phenomenon in which a person’s astral body is said to separate from the physical body and travel to or in a different plane of existence. (dictionary.com)

The term was first recorded between 1885 and 1890.

"The idea comes from a 19th century mystical system called theosophy which claims that we have seven bodies from the lowest physical to the highest spiritual and mental bodies," Dr Susan Blackmore told HowStuffWorks during an interview. (Astral projection: Facts and theories, Callum McKelvie, Benjamin Radford, February 25, 2022)

According to Wikipedia, astral projection takes up some type of form in the following religions: Kemetism (Ancient Egyptian), Animism/Shamanism (Amazon, Inuit), Hinduism, Shinto (Japanse), Taoism (Taoist), Judaism, Christianity, and Western esotericism.

The idea of astral travel is ancient and occurs in multiple cultures. The term "astral projection" was coined and promoted by 19th-century Theosophists. It is sometimes associated with dreams and forms of meditation. (Astral Projection, Wikipedia)

"what is western esotericism?" (can skip)

Western esotericism is used as an umbrella term for a wide variety of historical traditions that were traditionally neglected in academic research but have been moved to the foreground in recent years. These include “gnostic,” Hermetic, or theurgical currents in late antiquity, the so-called “occult sciences” (astrology, alchemy, magic), Jewish and Christian kabbalah1, theosophy, Rosicrucianism2, illuminism3, occultism4, spiritualism5, and related trends in modern and contemporary culture such as new age and occulture. (University of Amsterdam)

1 a form of Jewish mysticism that focuses on understanding the hidden, secret knowledge and meaning within Jewish tests and practices2 the belief that its members possess secret wisdom that was handed down to them from ancient times. 3 belief in or claim to a personal enlightenment not accessible to humankind in general 4 the study and pursuit of hidden knowledge, often aimed at achieving spiritual insight or personal power 5 a system of belief or religious practice based on supposed communication with the spirits of the dead, especially through mediums

"what is theosophy?"

theosophy, occult movement originating in the 19th century with roots that can be traced to ancient Gnosticism and Neoplatonism. The term theosophy, derived from the Greek theos (“god”) and sophia (“wisdom”), is generally understood to mean “divine wisdom.” Theosophical writers hold that there is a deeper spiritual reality and that direct contact with that reality can be established through intuition, meditation, revelation, or some other state transcending normal human consciousness. (theosophy, editors of Encyclopedia of Britannica, J. Gordan Melton, May 9, 2025)

In esotericism, astral projection (also known as astral travel, soul journey, soul wandering, spiritual journey, spiritual travel) is an intentional out-of-body experience (OBE) in which a subtle body, known as the astral body or body of light through which consciousness functions separately from the physical body, travels throughout the astral plane. (Astral Projection, Wikipedia)

Most people see astral projection as a method to shift, there are countless posts about it on forums, some I will list below if you would like to read for yourself.

There isn't much talk about astral projection, but it is the sister of shifting and can be used as a method of shifting. I've heard talk of waiting rooms, and astral projection can be used as a waiting room as well.

There are so many possibilities regarding shifting because shifting is limitless. Recently I've had an out of body experience right after shifting/manifesting, which I now believe to have been astral projection.

Update: I have learned something new, astral projection is when, "...your consciousness fully leaves your body and floats around this reality." (@callsigndio , commented).

So what I experiences was likely the void state, which I will be doing more research on tomorrow!

Blackbird - 4/11/25 My nonna loved the Beatles, recently I've come across some of their song for a school project and Blackbird is my favorite. When I heard it for the first time, I felt like I'd heard it before, but of course I had no memory of ever hearing it until that moment. I feel connected to it somehow and when I listen to it, I think of my s/o in my dr(s). I have the same s/o or rather I have the same fc for my s/o in every reality, so it works for any dr. I think having strong reminders for the people in my other realities helps me tether them to myself.

Me, a Writer? - 4/12/25 "I tried being a writer, but... I hate what I write." -Charlotte I love this quote, theres a connection to it I just cannot place. When I leave this reality for another, I believe with all my earnest it should stay with me.

get to know me

my name is caterinà but i mostly go by lina in my cr, it's a nickname taken from my second name adelina. i am italian and romanian. i have a tiktok: adelinasavoy, where i post shifting content as well.

i am 19 in this reality, i attend university and i've been scripting/shifting for years without knowing it.

i was first introduced to shifting earlier this year, only to learn that i've been doing it for years!

this is why i believe shifting is such a natural phenomenon. we are shifting all the time without knowing it.

my DMs and inbox is always open! please feel free to write anything you want, even if it's just to say hi! as long as you're being respectful, i don't mind and i will never judge you!

any gueses?

last night, after i shifted to another reality slightly different than my cr, i was a bit afraid to try anything or go back to sleep, so i watch a bit of monster high and then i felt a bit better.

so, i laid down again, curled up slightly, and i closed by eyes, a few second later, i felt weird, my entire body was numb. i didn't feel like a person.

the best way i can describe feeling what i was feeling is that i felt like a soul floating above a body, my body. if i reached out i could connect myself back to my body and move it.

i've felt numb–but i've never felt numb like this. it was so surreal. it was like i wasn't even there? like my body was paralyzed, but i was aware of it, if that makes sense? my eyes were closed and i don't remember seeing anything.

has anyone else ever felt this before? if so, can you please tell me what it was?

i need you to know i just shifted

theres no calm way to explain this.

it freaked me out.

as soon as i realized.

i wasn't excited i was fucking terrified.

now, the thing is, i saw this video on youtube, and there was this one method i thought i would try out.

basically, all i did was tell myself i was going to shift to a reality just like my current one, only my curtains are going to be pink.

i was in and out of sleep or whatever (i don't remember) but there was a flash of light and then my eyes shot open because a siren passed by me. they were police sirens–now this shit pulled me out of whatever dream/sleep thing was going on and i was pissed, but then i glanced at my bookshelves.

of course, first i looked at my curtains–were they pink? no, but when my eyes landed on my bookshelves (for reference i have 3 directly at the foot of my bed, with a little walk space in the middle.

there was something off, first i thought the last one look way skinnier than the first two, so that was freaking me out, i was trying to calm myself down (it took a while). i wear glasses, so looking at the shelves, i thought it was because it was dark and i couldn't see that they were wobbly, like, the corners were blurry (if that makes sense).

eventually i grabbed my phone and turned on the flash to get a better look. the bookshelf looked so weird, in fact my entire room just felt off. theres a space between the shelves for aesthetic purposes, but the last one is bigger because theres an outlet there.

i stepped in between the shelves and nearly shat myself, because there was a graduation lay with money attached to it. i was sure i had spent all the money on the lay when we got it (it was only $3 but still).

this is when i knew that i wasn't here–i was there. i went to explore the rest of the house, looking for anything that looked different. there wasn't much else–just one thing, my shoes.

i have a pair of hightop converse, typically they are shoved into a little shelf beneath the television, this time they were not and placed in the little rack near the door, alright acceptable, could be mom just put them somewhere else.

but then, walking back to my room, mom dropped her phone and my heart dropped. she asked me to pick it up, so i did, she asks why it's so hot, i tell her the air is off–which is weird because only i turn it off.

i hear my brother, he's awake in his room so i ask him if he turned it off, he says no, i ask him again and to stop messing with me, seriously did he turn it off? he said no, now i'm like, wtf because i know for a fact that my mother had turned the air on and i didn't turn it off and she was asleep.

whatever, i turn it on and go to my room. i look around. no. no there's something off about this fucking room. this is not my room–i mean it is–but it's not.

alright, theres only one way to be certain, yeah? i say my safe word, though it's a phrase really.

i lay back on my bed and say it. i do not close my eyes, but the second it leave my mouth, i feel a surge of energy and then like that it's gone.

a second later a car vrooms past and i realize i hadn't heard a car pass, nor had the upstairs neighbors annoyed me with their ruckas, nor had i got a notification from my online friends, which i get nearly all night because we live in separate timezones.

so now i'm sitting there, trying to figure out if i'd heard anything other than my brother in his room before i said my safe-word/phrase. i didn't i didn't. i just didn't.

now again, you could say this was all a coincidence. but i have this thing with loud nosies. i can't stand them, they're annoying and the cars that go back and forth throughout the night/day never fail to irritate me, i've woken out of my sleep to go upstairs and bang on my neighbors door to keep it the fuck down.

i have turned off my notifications because i get irritated easily if they keep pining.

perhaps i was caught up in the moment, the thought process of "have i shifted, if i have what's different?" but i can't shake the feeling of that room, nor of the way i was awoken by the sound of a loud ass siren, only to hear nothing else after that besides my brother–then to start hearing things once again after i say my safe word/phrase.

please let me know what you think, for me, i believe i was terrified at first because my mother and my brother are people i know in this reality, the potential of seeing them in another for the first time threw me so off guard, i don't know why i didn't think they'd be there when i asked for everything to be exactly the same.

little rant

recently my mom has been asking questions about my habits, i told her i'm "experimenting" i'm not ready to tell her everything, which is what i said, but i told her the most i would say on it is i'm trying to shift my awareness to another reality. i'm not scared she's going to throw me in a psych ward, but that she'll use it against me in an argument which is what she did when i first began to really start attempting to shift without realizing it.

i'd spend my summer days in the pages of books or on my bed, eyes closed, headphones on, and daydream about life elsewhere. she once told me something along the lines of, "you live in a fantasy world," in an argument, and i stopped doing a lot of what i did even though it made me happy
