I haven't done any animations since 2019 so this was quite three experience. It sucks you can't import audios into ibispaint :[
Feather illustration for non-biologists! It occurred to me that some of you might find this useful. It starts with a necessary biology lesson, because I find that understanding the structure and function of feathers will greatly improve accurate rendering of those feathers.
A lot of this is general - obviously you can find all kinds of exceptions in the natural world (penguins, ratites, I’m looking at you guys). But it should cover the bulk of the illustration needs if you’re not comfortable drawing feathers and want some ideas on how to improve.
For photo references, I highly recommend birdpixel (a very generous online art reference created by Leena and Vivek Khanzode), Cornell’s Macaulay Library, and Piranga, which is mostly aimed at North American bird banders but shows excellent close-ups of a variety of species.
Rest easy Technoblade, you will be missed. You really did help many people including me.
Ps: Fuck cancer.

I started this project in August, and I'm happy to announce it's ready to be shared in time for the new year! And I'm hoping that next year I might be able to compare some stats.
This spreadsheet's been quite fun to work on (...also tough at times. I learnt a lot.) so I hope it's of some use to the hermitshippers out there!
Wow thank you the advice it made a lot of sense !! really helpful in giving something to work with in the sea of endless resources that is the internet,, i am indeed curious about the specific ways you stylize anatomy or really any other things (i find your explanations to be very insightful and would be delighted to see more of what you have to say :D) and get some rest !!
AWESOME ok you didn’t specify so i picked my favorite thing to draw. legs!! admittedly biased towards muscular legs because i’m a cyclist and well. i’m my own free reference material. also i just like them. not sure how to describe how i go about them though? so i drew a few out for u. the top blue shape is the quadriceps kinda fused together— the more muscular someone is, the thicker the bottom section of it is, if that makes sense? also. most people have a decent amount of fat on their upper thighs. bottom blue shape is more like the bone and some of the outside structure
