Big Mama's Dialogue

I've heard a few people lament on how Big Mama is difficult to write because of how she speaks, so I thought I'd share my tips and tricks.

I start out by writing what I intend for her to say without the flowery language added on. For example:

"I look nice in the new jacket I bought."

Doesn't sound like Big Mama at all, but it'll help you have a place to start so you don't have to be intimidated by scrolling through thesaurus.

Now, Big M has a tendency to do the following:

Use outdated American slang (anywhere from the 1920's to the 60's)

Apply alliterations (using the same letter at the beginning of a word to the adjacent/close word)

Use adverbs, so describing words with the end suffix -ly (i.e. softly, mysteriously, quickly)

Sprinkle in a few made-up words

So let's take the base sentence I provided an shape it to Big M's standards.

So let's edit our base sentence a little, now it's:

"This new jacket I bought is the cat's meow."

Adding the next layer:

I did mention that Big Mama tended to use both alliterations and adverbs in copious amounts, but don't feel pressured to use both at once in a sentence. If it fits, it fits. If it doesn't, some trimming might be useful. This is why having a base sentence is important, so the intention behind the dialogue isn't lost under all the additions you're adding. So with that in mind, I'm going to alter our example:

"This new jazzy jacket I just bought is the cat's meow."

The last part:

I save the "fake words" part for last, because beginning with them can make your sentences clunky or not make sense. This part really relies on your personal touch or the context and tone of the situation at hand. The example I gave make Big Mama sound like she's preening about her looks, so I'm going to lean into that.

"This newsie-woozie jazzy jackety I just bought is the cat's meow! Grr!"

And for comparison, here's where we started.

-he likes reading romance novels and has a stash of them hidden in between his bed and the wall!

-when first starting a relationship with you, he’s somewhat reserved and awkward despite having known you for a long while before.

-he’s a mutant turtle living in the sewers without human interaction for 15 years, can you blame the guys for thinking he’d never have a girlfriend?

-when alone with you, he’s more open and willing to reciprocate affection, often making corny jokes to alleviate his anxiety.

-it was somewhat obvious to everyone about his crush on you since he tended to be shyer and more tense around you (bullied by his brothers 24/7 yes even DONNIE).

-Leo often confides in you with most of his problems and conflicts, just like how he does with Splinter.

-His leader side comes out when planning date nights and other romantic scenes, he wants to impress you and give you the image of someone composed and calm (he’s not). A bit of a control freak over it, it’s a bit endearing.

-he tries to take reign of the relationship, but acts like an idiot when you give him any form of positive affirmation.

-whenever he’s nervous about his relationship with you, his mind goes to ‘what would captain Ryan do?’. Granted it did earn him an absolutely horrifying version of you berating him once so he turned it down.

-don’t let him cook!!! He threw water on a small oil fire once and he was demoted to being to watch you cook from a distance (20 feet).

-he pulls his weight by always washing the dishes afterwards, you’d consider him a male wife if he wasn’t so shit at cooking.

-you both have cooking dates, meaning you give Leo basic tasks like cutting the vegetables or setting up the table while you narrate the steps on how to make the meal you’re cooking at the moment.

-he loved it when you made a rice omelet for him and when he tried to teach you how to use some ketchup to write kanji on it.

-since he’s a turtle, he’s cold blooded (obviously), and so he likes to get warm by using you as his personal heater and pillow.

-he likes being the little spoon and being coddled when he’s anxious and worried about the future and the safety of his family.

-he’s obsessed with his Japanese heritage and reads Japanese literature and poetry, also knows more Japanese out of all of his brothers.

- Leo is a somewhat traditional type of person, and believes in chivalry. He is a bit old-fashioned in his views of gender roles, and sees himself as the protector and provider for you.

- he still respects your independence and ability to take care of yourself. He doesn't try to control you, he knows that you can take care of yourself, but he often gets worried which causes him to try and control some aspects of your life.

- While Leo is comfortable with taking on a more feminine role, he still values traditional masculinity and feels the need to protect you above all.

-tries to imitate the actions of the man in some of the romantic movies he’s seen, a bit desperate to please you.

The funny one, everybody!

Finally got around to finishing my 12k… er now 13k Celebration Animatic you guys requested. Warned you it would be silly. I know it’s stupid but been wanting to do this since I first heard this audio clip months ago. Consider it my convoluted Donnie version of the infamous “Yo Mama” joke Raph makes in ‘03.

Technically this is not canon, though let it be known that Replica Donnie is just as unhinged as the rest of the f!Donnies. He’s just too tired to make a show of it most of the time. It’s exhausting being quirky in your 30’s (speaking from experience).

Also sorry for the lousy quality. Maybe someday I’ll learn how to use Clip Studio to make a proper animatic rather than just clip it on Instagram. Replica update should be up next!

Walking down in a alleyway in New York was aparently the next big way to turn into a semihuman flesh eating creature with a boxcutter knife sticking out of your forehead and your arms. It was also apparently a way to get tangled with 4 teenage turtle boys who are aparently ninjas and some ginger chick with a missing daddy.

In all honesty, the first mistake was even being in New York the first place.
