For some reason, people have a hard time looking at or calling Bakugou an abuser.
And for a long time, I've been confused about that. Like, what else do you call continuous physical, verbal, and mental abuse for an entire decade? It's not like Bakugou was a one-off bully, he did this consistently for ten years.
But I think I finally have an answer.
I have to say that I think that most of it's because Izuku's a boy.
Don't misunderstand, this is not one of those arguments that's using male survivors to talk over women survivors. That's disgusting and the people who do that don't actually care about male survivors.
But I do think that because Izuku and Bakugou are both boys it's easier for most people to dismiss the power difference between them. Almost like a "boys will be boys" kind of thing, you know? If Izuku was a girl, more people would look at their relationship and be able to say it's fucked up.
Now the unfortunate side of this is that if Izuku was a girl, most male antis who cry about BakuDeku because it's gay (and not because it's abusive) would probably ship it for the sole reason that it would be hetero.
It's a give and take thing I guess
