Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post every week announcing the latest project.
We’re on the cusp of a new year. This weekend, the goal is to take photos and videos that capture the feeling of fresh starts and new goals, as in this featured photo from Vanessa (@gypsyyogalove). Here are some tips to get your creative juices flowing:
Reflect on 2017. What were your successes, and what were your challenges? How can you represent those in a single frame?
Show us your long-term resolutions for the new year, like mastering a tricky yoga pose, or ones you hope to achieve every day, like sharing a #KindComment.
Your resolution is your story. Be sure to use your captions to give more context and information about your plans and aspirations.
PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPresolutions2018 hashtag only to photos and videos taken over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video taken over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.

Exploration requires mobility. And whether you’re on Earth or as far away as the Moon or Mars, you need good tires to get your vehicle from one place to another. Our decades-long work developing tires for space exploration has led to new game-changing designs and materials. Yes, we’re reinventing the wheel—here’s why.
Early tire designs were focused on moving hardware and astronauts across the lunar surface. The last NASA vehicle to visit the Moon was the Lunar Roving Vehicle during our Apollo missions. The vehicle used four large flexible wire mesh wheels with stiff inner frames. We used these Apollo era tires as the inspiration for new designs using newer materials and technology to better function on a lunar surface.
During the mid-2000s, we worked with industry partner Goodyear to develop the Spring Tire, an airless compliant tire that consists of several hundred coiled steel wires woven into a flexible mesh, giving the tires the ability to support high loads while also conforming to the terrain. The Spring Tire has been proven to generate very good traction and durability in soft sand and on rocks.
A little over a year after the Mars Curiosity Rover landed on Mars, engineers began to notice significant wheel damage in 2013 due to the unexpectedly harsh terrain. That’s when engineers began developing new Spring Tire prototypes to determine if they would be a new and better solution for exploration rovers on Mars.
In order for Spring Tires to go the distance on Martian terrain, new materials were required. Enter nickel titanium, a shape memory alloy with amazing capabilities that allow the tire to deform down to the axle and return to its original shape.
After building the shape memory alloy tire, Glenn engineers sent it to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Mars Life Test Facility. It performed impressively on the punishing track.
New, high performing tires would allow lunar and Mars rovers to explore greater regions of the surface than currently possible. They conform to the terrain and do not sink as much as rigid wheels, allowing them to carry heavier payloads for the same given mass and volume. Also, because they absorb energy from impacts at moderate to high speeds, there is potential for use on crewed exploration vehicles which are expected to move at speeds significantly higher than the current Mars rovers.
Maybe. Recently, engineers and materials scientists have been testing a spinoff tire version that would work on cars and trucks on Earth. Stay tuned as we continue to push the boundaries on traditional concepts for exploring our world and beyond.

It was an Honor working on this album. I grew up learning how to play incubus songs on the guitar at young age , so my fans can thank them for my early love for making music 🙌. this is a great rock album. go check it out! #Incubus8

On the day of her latest album release, “reputation,” Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) spent some time in New York City with her cats, Meredith and Olivia, and rehearsed for her upcoming performance on “Saturday Night Live.” Tune in to our story, or, as Taylor says, “Come hang with me at SNL rehearsals and check in with the kitty committee!”
We’re using our unique vantage point in space to provide observations and data of Hurricane Irma and other tropical storms. Hurricanes Irma and Jose are seen here in a 12-hour long infrared loop. Scientists monitor storms in infrared to closely monitor clouds and storm intensity. We continue to provide satellite imagery for these storms, tracking its trajectory, force and precipitation to inform forecasters at the National Hurricane Center.
As these storms continue their westward drive in the coming days, they will be passing over waters that are warmer than 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit)—hot enough to sustain a category 5 storm. Warm oceans, along with low wind shear, are two key ingredients that fuel and sustain hurricanes. To see more of Lina’s creations, follow @agirlwithajournal on Instagram. To celebrate the upcoming #WWIM16💌’s theme of Kind Comments, we’ll be featuring voices spreading messages of kindness within the Instagram community.
Lina Doerwald (@agirlwithajournal) remembers her first journal: it was a birthday gift from her grandmother, and she would go months without writing in it. Fast forward a few years, and the 19-year-old German student is writing, painting and drawing in her colorful notebooks almost every day. “Most weeks, I sit down three or four evenings to prep my journal with watercolors,” says Lina, who uses paints, pens and stamps to decorate the pages. She then fills her journals with handwritten words, printed photos and various bits and pieces of her daily life. “It’s the best way to get all my feelings out.”
Lina frequently finds inspiration within the supportive journaling community on Instagram. “Everyone is so creative and always coming up with new ideas,” says Lina, who gives back with #KindComments. “I try to respond to every comment under my posts and show how much I appreciate the effort people make to write something that brightens my day.”
Our pale blue dot, planet Earth, is seen in this video captured by NASA astronaut Jack Fischer from his unique vantage point on the International Space Station. From 250 miles above our home planet, this time-lapse imagery takes us over the Pacific Ocean’s moon glint and above the night lights of San Francisco, CA. The thin hue of our atmosphere is visible surrounding our planet with a majestic white layer of clouds sporadically seen underneath.
The International Space Station is currently home to 6 people who are living and working in microgravity. As it orbits our planet at 17,500 miles per hour, the crew onboard is conducting important research that benefits life here on Earth.

Hi everyone! I wanted to share with you my new planner, “Get it Together!” since it’s finally out!
This is a 16 month Sarah’s Scribbles planner that starts in September. It’s very special to me because I spent a long time designing it so it would be perfect for the comic strip. Each month has a different color and illustration style, and every week corresponds to a new comic. I picked all of my favorite comics from the last few years–in a lot of ways it’s like a mini book you can plan your life around.
There’s also stickers that come with the planner, and a pocket to keep papers in! Check it out HERE

The Dark Lord’s Handbook, by Paul Dale. The Dark Lord’s Handbook, Part 1 To start with, let’s do the the blurb: To become a Dark Lord is no easy thing. The simple ambition to hold dominion over the world and bend all to your will sounds straightforward but it’s not. There’s armies to raise, fortresses to build, heroes to defeat, battles to be fought, hours of endless soliloquy in front of the…

We have lots of science in the next few weeks that will be using the Microgravity Sciences Glovebox (MSG). This closed environment allows us to work in a “clean” area. My favorite science in the MSG, so far, is the stem cell research. This study is examining the option of proliferating stem cells in microgravity.
