Happy Earth Day!
When we first launched Chat, our goal was to emulate the best parts of face-to-face conversation. Chat 1.0 was all about the joys of being here — when most apps told you when your friend was typing, Chat let you know that your friend was listening. Two years later, we’ve learned a ton about how people talk, but our goal remains unchanged. We want Chat to be the best way to communicate — second only to hanging out face-to-face.
Today, we’re excited to introduce Chat 2.0. You can start by sending a few chats, and when your friend shows up, start talking or video chatting instantly with one tap. Your friend can simply listen if you want to sing them a song, or watch if you have a new puppy to show them. If they aren’t there, you can quickly send an audio note to say what you mean. And sometimes, a sticker says it best :)
What we love most about the new Chat is how easily you can transition between all these ways of communicating — just like you do in person. When that’s possible, you aren’t texting, calling, or video chatting… you’re just talking. We’ve been working on this redesign for a while — we can’t wait to hear what you think!
We’re also introducing Auto-Advance Stories, the fastest way to catch up with your friends. When you finish a Story, the next one begins automatically — simply swipe to skip ahead, or pull down to exit!
Lastly, we’re refreshing our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, making some things clearer, and building foundations for awesome new products to come. Check out our new Privacy Center for more on that!
Happy Snapping!

Inspiration of the Day: Watch me http://love.whrt.it/ditum
Your Tumblr app makes GIFs now, just like the iOS app does.
Any video on your phone can be giffed. You’ve probably already shot tons of them, and they probably contain tons of giffable moments. Just:
Open a new photo post.
Pick a video.
Thwack!—it’s a GIF.
Speed it up. Slow it down. Make it eternally loop, or fool it into rebounding back and forth across time. Have fun figuring out the things you can do with your GIF.
Some additional tips for your GIF-making pleasure:
The shorter your GIF is, the better it’ll look.
Speeding up a slow-mo GIF to 3x or 4x makes for a crazy-smooth normal-speed GIF.
Tap the rebound once to make your GIF go back and forth, twice to make it run in reverse.
Sometimes life is too complicated for just one GIF. Make a photoset.

We’ve been doing something new at Bitly lately. We’ve been making more of a priority to lean out as a team. We realized that, for all the talk about how startups should do more, faster, there’s a lot more value to slowing down and taking a moment to sit back and allow your long-term objectives to fall into focus.
There will always be competing opportunities that vie for our attention, but if we don’t make it our number one priority to address fundamental challenges, everything else will be done in vain. That’s why, our CEO, Mark Josephson asks the Bitly team one question every day:

Hi everyone! I wanted to share with you my new planner, “Get it Together!” since it’s finally out!
This is a 16 month Sarah’s Scribbles planner that starts in September. It’s very special to me because I spent a long time designing it so it would be perfect for the comic strip. Each month has a different color and illustration style, and every week corresponds to a new comic. I picked all of my favorite comics from the last few years–in a lot of ways it’s like a mini book you can plan your life around.
There’s also stickers that come with the planner, and a pocket to keep papers in! Check it out HERE
