similar, but still different.
A cake for the heart
i’ve been meaning to put something like this together for a long time, because there are a lot of amazing fics in the jjk tag and many of them definitely deserve more attention. here are several fics that i’ve read and enjoyed since joining the fandom; this list will be satosugu heavy, since that is the majority of what i read, but there are others listed as well. be aware that the majority of these contain heavy manga spoilers:

This got long so it’s become its own post.
I explained this to my seven-year-old cousin once when she expressed distaste over anyone possibly enjoying horror movies, and she understood perfectly, so adults have no excuse:
People read dark fiction for the same reason they ride roller coasters.
It’s a simulation of danger without anyone actually being under threat. It gets the brain worked up, releases a bunch of adrenaline into your system, you experience a whole rush of emotions and excitement and fear; but a safe kind of fear, where you know the danger isn’t real and there are dozens of measures in place to protect you. And then it’s over and you can get off the ride.
That doesn’t mean everyone is obligated to ride roller coasters. I, for example, am scared of heights, and most coasters are scary for me in a way that isn’t fun. The fear isn’t that I’ll die, the fear is of experiencing more of the ride and thus it’s not a safe fear, because it’s real and I have no control over it. As such, I don’t ride large roller coasters. But the fact that large coasters are not mentally or emotionally safe for me to ride doesn’t mean they should be illegal, or that there’s “something wrong” with anyone who enjoys them.
Similarly, sometimes accidents happen. Sometimes people have conditions they don’t know about until a coaster aggravates them in the worst possible way because they didn’t know to avoid it…and that’s no one’s fault. People have died or been injured in coaster accidents, and those accidents are pretty much always the result of human error, carelessness, laziness, or poor communication. It’s the responsibility of the amusement park to make sure that basic safety features are built-in and maintained–or at the very least (mangling the metaphor somewhat because this would obviously be illegal in real life) to make it clear that those features don’t exist! I feel like most people would avoid a ride clearly labelled “HAS NEVER HAD A SAFETY INSPECTION! NO RESTRAINT BARS! RIDE STAFF HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED AND THERE ARE NO EMERGENCY SERVICES ON-SITE! OPEN FLAMES!” but if you click on a fic clearly labelled “author chose not to use warnings” you know the risks and they’ve met their obligation to warn you of them. And sometimes the people providing this content don’t perform that basic due diligence, and people get hurt as a result–but that’s on those specific bad actors, and doesn’t mean we ban all roller coasters. It also doesn’t mean every single ride operator on earth should be tarred with that brush, especially when they’ve openly spoken out against such practices! Furthermore, if you KNOW you have a heart condition and willingly get on a ride that says it is not safe for people with heart conditions, you cannot then blame the amusement park!
What makes roller coasters safe for me? Well, for one, the fact that I’m an adult now so my family has finally stopped trying to force me onto them. Pressure was a constant part of interacting with coasters for me for YEARS, and THAT fucked me up. There was “mild” teasing, frustration when I refused, anger if I changed my mind, and a lot of guilt-tripping about how it was my fault that they couldn’t go on the rides they wanted to because of me. That shit was not okay, and anyone trying to force someone to engage with content they don’t want to is obviously in the wrong.
The OTHER thing that helps me is content warnings the heroes who upload on-ride video of coasters I’m interested in trying. Knowing exactly what to expect–being able to see for myself all the drops so I can judge if they’ll be too much for me, and know in advance where they are so I can brace myself–can turn a ride that otherwise would have been a miserable and stressful experience that I chose not to subject myself to into a really good time. These are especially valuable, because what’s safe for ME is not automatically safe for everyone else. The only thing that makes a ride too much for me–my only hard limit–is extremely tall drops. I love inversions, fast twists and turns, I don’t mind rough coasters, it’s just drop height. But I’ve known people with medical conditions that made rough jolts dangerous, and plenty of people like tall drops but find tight turns and high speed overwhelming. Do I wish more coasters were designed to have the elements I enjoy without the ones I don’t? Yes, and not being able to find many frustrates me. But that doesn’t mean I expect everyone to have the same limits, or that I think people who design tall coasters with big drops and lots of airtime are malicious.
By this logic, actually, darkfic is much safer than roller coasters–once you’ve committed to a coaster you have to ride it out even if you change your mind. But the moment a dark fic or horror movie takes a turn you don’t like or becomes suddenly too real, you can turn it off and walk away.
And if you think enjoying roller coasters means someone will conclude that it’s okay to fling people off cliffs without their consent, then, well, in that case you’re just ungodly fucking stupid. Sorry you had to find out this way.
Have fun on those hypercoasters, you crazy bastards. Keep uploading ride videos for me.
I love this. Damn, the details are great!
More Hogwarts AU stuff. Introducing classmates! Lucille is the bird-girl from OTGW (I just gave her a name) and Pat and Oliver are OCs of mine. Info on Dipper, Mabel, Wirt and Greg’s parents, hopefully the writing isn’t too small (more info on Pacifica will appear during the AU, as well as Wendy; Wirt’s dad does not make any appearance in the AU. He’s just there to be the reason to a problem XP
Also, Wirt’s Beast. Now ya know 8DD
Tom Marvolo Riddle is a very complex character.
We are talking about a child, a child grew up in the midset of WWII in an orphanage who's matron was an alcoholic woman. He also came from a long line of incestuous relationships and was a result of Amortentia/Imperius Curse. It is implied that they called doctors and priests before to "treat him" or "exorcise him"
I find it weird that Dumbledore, a man who grew up with a child with magical problems and a flawless mentor to so many people cannot recognize signs of abuse here. Instead of trying to help the kid or making him open up, he silently judges him because he is coming from Slytherin heritage and proceeds to burn his wardrobe to traumatize him even more.
This is not you handle a kid who shows bad behavior and I am sure Dumbledore, who is in his 50s in this scene knows it even better than me. This will only make the kid resent you and be cautioned against you. Dumbledore asks Tom to open up towards him about the Chamber of Secrets and this is precise reason why a fifteen year old avoided Dumbledore to not get in even more trouble.
I believe no children should be treated as their existence is a fault at first, while we look through Tom we need to remember this is not a serial-killer man with genocidal ideas but rather a teenager with mental illness. In my opinion he has either narcissistic personality disorder or antisocial personality disorder, he has no qualms about using someone to get what he wants because he is raised in that way. There wasn't a comfort area he could take refuge in so he simply created one, he has a weak self-esteem if he makes a 14 year old boy, who doesn't possess even quarter of his power bow before him
Well, I think his character could be handled so much better if it weren't for Rowling's one dimensional look on villains. We could see his psychology and the sufferings he endured as an orphan during WWII and the bullying of his peers because he didn't have any respectable surname as well. This is why I am a little too obsessed with TMR fanfictions and his descend into madness, he has potential.
Thinking about the fact that Dazai found intrest in Chuuya because of his loyalty and not his ability. Thinking about the fact that the idea of Chuuya being Arahabki never crossed Dazai's mind. Thinking about the fact that Dazai truly disliked how the sheep took advantage of Chuuya. Thinking about the fact that Chuuya was Dazai's reason to live in the fifthteen light novel. Thinking about the fact that Chuuya was the first person Dazai shared an equal partnership with. Thinking about the fact that Chuuya was the first person Dazai ever started to harvest genuine care for. Thinking about the fact that Chuuya was Dazai's drive to keep living and fighting in Stormbringer. Thinking about the fact that Dazai carried Chuuya on his back and took him to the bar so he can say goodbye to his dying friends. Thinking about the fact that Dazai never doubted Chuuya's humanity. Thinking about the fact that after Dazai believed Veraline was defeated he didn't hesitate to look for Chuuya in the woods when he could've told anyone else to do it for him. Thinking about the fact that Dazai gave Chuuya Verlaine's hat because he knows it hold meaning to him. Thinking about the fact that Dazai is amazed by corruption but also uses it as a last resort for Chuuya's sake. Thinking about the fact that Dazai is always delicate when it comes to nullifying Chuuya's corruption. Thinking about the fact that Dazai started to softly laugh at Chuuya's shooked face when he found out that Adam actually cared for him. Thinking about the fact that Dazai let Chuuya rest on his lap and silently comforted him after the dragon head conflict. Thinking about the fact that Dazai covered up for Chuuya so that he wouldn't be incriminated back in the basement. Thinking about the fact that Chuuya's damsel impression was the one thing that made Dazai genuienly laugh. Thinking about the fact that Dazai proudly bragged to the enemy how strong Chuuya was in the lovecraft battle. Thinking about the fact that Dazai sewed an inside joke in Chuuya's coat. Thinking about the fact that Dazai still calls Chuuya "partner" and not "ex-partner". Thinking about the fact that Dazai probably feels the most comfortable with Chuuya. Thinking about the fact that Dazai put his life on Chuuya's hands without hesitation. Thinking about the fact that Dazai could've left Chuuya to die back in the fog but he let protected him and let him sleep in his lap.
.... But Dazai defiently uses Chuuya right? Dazai defiently does not regard Chuuya as a human being and would let him die for his own personal gain, right? Yeah.....
This isn't even me pointing out headcanons of these two or me romantizing them either. Its just me pointing canon facts from the light novels, anime and manga.
I won't bash you for not shipping them, I obviously won't shove this ship down your throat either. But you can't just simply ignore the canon trust and bond these two characters have for one another.
Right now, I only focused on Dazai's feelings for Chuuya because a lot of people always use the "Dazai doesn't care for Chuuya" as an argument when it comes to bashing this ship.
Of course I won't lie to you and say that this ship is pure sunshine and rainbows, of course not! But is any bsd ship truly sunshine and rainbows considering the toxic enviorments they all grew in?
If you truly believe that Dazai does not care for Chuuya I am seriously going to assume you only watched the anime, and even if you only watched the anime the care is still evident but I guess its more subtle.
I've seen so many people being too passionate about their hatred for this ship, and I totally get if you don't ship it but I think its pretty understandable why people ship it too.
I personally love this ship and the reason for it is because of how profound this dynamic is and how important it is to both characters.
Aaannnd im done with my rant, and if you don't ship this its totally fine! You can ship whatever you want unless its pedophilic or toxic, it just sort of annoys me when people try to bash this ship with the empty argument of "Dazai doesn't care for Chuuya" or vise versa.
Honestly the sheer drama of Tom Riddle and his You-Know-Who nonsense...bitch changes his name to the tackiest french nonsense he can conceive of. and then doesn't even let people use it. What was the point Tom? What was the fucking point?
hello! i really like your blog, but can I suggest that could you make a masterlist for it? It's just to hard for me to scroll forever in your blog to find the chapters I want. But if you don't want to, it's fine! It's just my suggestion, thank you very much for your time <33
Hi, you can find our master list of chapters here: https://rof-scans.tumblr.com/current You can also find the link located on the bottom right of our blog by clicking on the bookmark icon. Hope that helps!
Japanese child actress Mana Ashida (little Mako) was embarrassed that she couldn’t pronounce Guillermo Del Toro’s name so he gave her special permission to call him “Totoro-san” instead.
